Stop Tilting Your Head Back for a Nosebleed
Tilting your head back during a nosebleed is the most common first-aid mistake people make, and it doesn't actually stop the bleeding — it just redirects the blood down your throat instead of out your nose. That can make you swallow blood, cough, or even feel sick to your stomach.
The correct move is the opposite: lean slightly forward and pinch the soft part of your nose, just below the bony bridge, for a full ten minutes without checking early. Breathe through your mouth and stay calm — most nosebleeds stop well within that window if you don't let go too soon.
The point
Leaning forward and pinching the nose works — tilting the head back only sends blood down your throat.
