Triggers Are Old Wounds Asking for Attention

H howtolive.guide ·

When your emotional reaction is wildly out of proportion to what just happened, the current situation probably isn't the real cause. A trigger is a present event activating a past wound — something unresolved that never fully healed. This doesn't excuse the reaction or make it someone else's problem to manage. But it does redirect the question: not "why is this person so infuriating?" but "why is this hitting me so hard?" That second question is the more useful one.

The point
Disproportionate reactions usually point to old pain, not the present situation.
