Cool a Burn With Running Water, Not Folk Remedies

H howtolive.guide ·

No butter, no oil, no ice, no toothpaste — these folk remedies either trap heat in the tissue or cause further damage. The correct response is simple: run cool (not cold) water over the burn for at least 10 minutes. This stops the burning process in the deeper layers of skin. After cooling, cover the area loosely with a clean, non-stick dressing. Don't pop blisters — they're your body's natural bandage. Seek medical help for burns larger than your palm or any burn on the face, hands, or genitals.

The point
Cool running water for 10 minutes is the only correct first aid for a burn — everything else makes it worse.
