Believing That Feeling Bad Means Something Is Wrong With You

Sometimes feeling bad is the appropriate response to a bad situation. Grief after loss, sadness after failure, anger at injustice — these aren't signs of a broken mind. They're proof that you're functioning normally. A person who feels nothing after losing something important has a problem. A person who feels grief doesn't.
Not every painful emotion needs to be fixed, medicated, or optimized away. Some feelings just need to be felt, fully and without apology, and then they move through. The goal isn't to feel good all the time — it's to feel what's real.
The point
Painful emotions in response to painful situations are not signs of disorder — they're signs that you're human.
