"How are you?" gets "Fine" -- every single time. It's a social reflex, not a real question. If you actually want to know how someone is, ask something that can't be answered on autopilot. "What's exciting you right now?" or "What's been on your mind lately?" opens a door that "How are you?" keeps firmly shut. Better questions lead to real conversations, and real conversations are how people feel seen.
