The Rescue Question: 'Do You Need Support or Are We Looking for a Solution?'

This single question can prevent an entire category of arguments. When your partner comes to you upset, your instinct might be to fix the problem. Their need might simply be to feel heard. Without clarifying, you offer solutions they didn't ask for, and they feel dismissed rather than helped. One question, asked early, resets the entire exchange. It says: I want to show up for you the right way.
The point
Asking whether someone needs support or a solution prevents the classic 'I don't need you to fix it' conflict.
