Hug Your Partner for 20 Seconds -- It Physically Reduces Stress for Both of You

H howtolive.guide ·

A quick squeeze at the door doesn't count. Oxytocin -- the bonding hormone -- needs about 20 seconds of sustained, intentional contact to release in meaningful amounts. That's longer than it sounds. It's long enough to actually feel the other person breathing, to let your nervous system downshift. Twenty seconds of real contact can lower cortisol, reduce blood pressure, and remind your body that you're safe with this person. It feels awkward until it doesn't, and then it becomes the best part of your day.

The point
Oxytocin needs about 20 seconds of real contact to release -- a quick squeeze is not enough.
