How to Fire Someone While Preserving Their Dignity

H howtolive.guide ·

Letting someone go is one of the hardest things a manager does, and how you do it says everything about your leadership. Be direct and honest about the reason, but never make it humiliating. Hold the conversation privately, do not drag it out with false hope, and acknowledge the person's contributions. Give them a chance to ask questions and process. Offer practical support -- a reference, a reasonable timeline, help with the transition. The person leaving will remember how they were treated, and so will everyone who stays.

The point
Fire with clarity and honesty, but never strip someone of their dignity in the process.
