Basic Self-Defense Principles — It Is Not About Fighting
Real self-defense is not about martial arts or fighting skills — it is about awareness, avoidance, and de-escalation. The best self-defense move is not being in a dangerous situation in the first place. Trust your instincts, avoid isolated areas, and do not escalate confrontations with ego. If someone wants your wallet, give it to them — no possession is worth your life.
If escape is truly impossible, remember the basics: make noise (scream, set off a car alarm), create distance, run toward people and light. Strike only as a last resort to create an opening to escape, not to win a fight. Your goal is always to get away, never to stay and fight. Take a basic self-defense class not for the techniques, but for the confidence to react instead of freeze.
