Toxic Positivity Is Not Support — It's Emotional Dismissal

"Just think positive!" "Everything happens for a reason!" "At least it's not worse!" These phrases are well-intentioned, but they do something damaging: they tell the person in pain that their pain is wrong, inconvenient, or fixable with the right attitude. Real support sounds like: "That sounds really hard. I'm here." It doesn't try to resolve the feeling — it acknowledges it. Toxic positivity makes the comforter feel better. The person who's struggling usually just feels more alone.

Forcing someone to look on the bright side doesn't help them — it just makes their pain invisible.
