Canned beans are one of the most underrated ingredients in any kitchen. They are cheap, packed with protein and fiber, incredibly versatile, and ready in minutes. No soaking, no planning ahead, no fuss. Open a can and dinner is halfway done.

Toss chickpeas into a salad with olive oil, lemon, and herbs. Simmer black beans with cumin and garlic for tacos. Add white beans to a soup for body and richness. Mash cannellini beans on toast with chili flakes. Rinse them first, heat them through, season well — and you have a meal component that would take hours to prepare from dried. Keep four or five cans in the pantry at all times.
