Ask About the Last Person Who Left the Role

This single question can reveal more than an hour of standard interview conversation. "What happened to the last person in this role?" tells you whether people grow into bigger opportunities, burn out, or get pushed out. If they were promoted, great -- there's a path forward. If they left after six months or the answer is vague and uncomfortable, that's a pattern worth understanding before you commit.
