The Heimlich Maneuver — Know It Before You Need It

Choking can turn fatal in minutes, and you may be the only person nearby who can help. The Heimlich maneuver is simple: stand behind the person, place your fist just above their navel, grab it with your other hand, and deliver firm, upward thrusts until the object is expelled. For infants, the technique is different — use back blows and chest thrusts instead.
If the person becomes unconscious, lower them to the ground and begin CPR. Always call emergency services even if the object comes out, because internal injuries can occur. Watch a short video tutorial once a year to keep the technique fresh in your memory. It takes five minutes to learn something that could save a life at a dinner table.
The point
Learn the Heimlich maneuver before an emergency — five minutes of practice can save someone choking in front of you.

Took a first aid course 5 years ago just because work required it. Last year I used the Heimlich maneuver on a choking toddler at a restaurant. The mom was frozen. Those 8 hours of training paid off in 30 seconds.
