Mental Flexibility Is More Useful Than Mental Toughness

"Just be stronger" is well-meaning but often useless advice. Rigidity under pressure doesn't hold — it cracks. Mental flexibility means being able to revise your plan, update your beliefs, and sit with uncertainty without needing to resolve it immediately. This isn't weakness. A tree that bends in the wind survives the storm. A tree that refuses to bend does not. The most adaptive people aren't the toughest — they're the most willing to adjust.
The point
Rigidity breaks under pressure; the ability to adapt is the more durable form of strength.
