Guilt Is About What You Did, Shame Is About Who You Are
Guilt says I made a mistake; shame says I am a mistake. Guilt is useful — it points at something you can repair. Shame isn't, because there's nothing to fix in a person, only a reason to hate yourself.
Next time you spiral, ask which one you're actually feeling. If it's about an action, make it right — if it's about your worth, put it down, because shame rarely tells the truth about who you are.
The point
Guilt points at something you can fix; shame just makes you feel unfixable — learn to tell them apart.
