You Are Probably Using Too Much Laundry Detergent

More soap does not mean cleaner clothes. Excess detergent doesn't rinse out fully, leaving residue that makes fabric stiff, traps odors, and can irritate skin. Modern washing machines and detergents are designed to work with far less than most people use.
Try using half of what you normally pour — most loads need far less than the cap line suggests. Your clothes will come out just as clean, feel softer, and your machine will last longer without soap buildup in the drum.
The point
Excess detergent leaves residue that stiffens fabric and traps odors — use half of what you think you need.
