Most Houseplants Die from Overwatering, Not Neglect

The instinct to water frequently comes from caring, but most indoor plants need far less water than people give them. Roots sitting in constant moisture don't get oxygen — they rot. Check the soil with your finger before watering: if the top inch is dry, water; if damp, wait. Drainage holes in pots are non-negotiable, not optional — without them, even careful watering leads to standing water at the bottom that slowly kills roots.
The point
Check soil before watering — if the top inch is still damp, wait. Overwatering kills more houseplants than forgetting to water.
