Procrastination Is Usually About Emotions, Not Laziness

H howtolive.guide ·

When you put something off, it is rarely because you are lazy. More often, you are avoiding an uncomfortable feeling — fear of failure, perfectionism, or simply not knowing where to start. Recognizing the emotion behind the delay is the first step to moving through it.

Be honest with yourself about what you are really avoiding. The task is usually easier than the feeling.

The point
Procrastination is an emotional response, not a character flaw — name the feeling and it loses its grip.

I procrastinated on my thesis for 6 months. Thought I was lazy. Turns out I was terrified of failure. Once I named the fear, I could work through it. Finished in 3 months after that.
