You See What You Want to See

Your brain is not a neutral observer. Once you form an opinion, it quietly filters incoming information — amplifying what confirms your belief and downplaying what contradicts it. This is confirmation bias, and everyone has it, including people who are sure they do not.
The practical antidote is simple but uncomfortable: actively look for evidence that you are wrong. Read the opposing argument charitably. Ask someone who disagrees with you why they disagree. You will not always change your mind, but you will hold your positions for better reasons.
The point
Actively seek out evidence against your beliefs — your brain will not do it for you.

I kept a tab open for months with articles confirming a particular investment thesis. The day it collapsed, I went back and found 12 contradicting pieces I'd scrolled past without reading. My brain had been running a very efficient filtering operation — just not in my favor.
