You Teach People How to Treat You

H howtolive.guide ·

Every time you laugh off a comment that stung, say "it's fine" when it isn't, or let someone cross a line without consequence -- you're giving a lesson. You're teaching them that this behavior is acceptable, maybe even expected. People aren't mind readers. They learn what's okay with you based on what you tolerate, not what you silently wish they would stop doing.

This isn't about blame. It's about recognizing that you have more influence over how you're treated than you think. When you start responding differently -- calmly but honestly -- most people adjust. And the ones who don't? That tells you something important too.

The point
What you tolerate is what you invite -- your responses shape how others treat you.
