Love Without Respect Becomes Control

Someone can love you fiercely and still not respect your boundaries, your choices, or your right to be a separate person. Love without respect shows up as checking your phone, deciding who you can see, or guilt-tripping you for having a life outside the relationship. Respect is not optional -- it's the structure that keeps love from collapsing into possession. If someone loves you but doesn't respect you, what they love is the idea of owning you.
