A Good Relationship Does Not Require Self-Abandonment

If being loved requires you to shrink, silence your opinions, or abandon the things that make you you -- the price is too high. A partner who needs a smaller version of you doesn't love you; they love their control over you. A good relationship makes space for both people to be fully themselves -- messy edges, strong opinions, individual passions and all. You should never have to choose between being loved and being whole.
The point
If being loved requires losing yourself, the price is too high -- a good partner loves who you actually are.
