Don't Share Editable Links When View-Only Would Do

It takes two extra seconds to set a sharing link to "view only" instead of "can edit." But the difference matters more than you think. Editable links let anyone rename your files, delete content, reorganize your folders, or introduce errors you might not notice for weeks.

Default to view-only. Grant edit access only to specific people who genuinely need it. This is especially important for shared spreadsheets and documents that serve as a source of truth — one accidental keystroke from someone browsing can corrupt data quietly.
