Set AirDrop and Nearby Share to Contacts Only, Not Everyone

H Pavel Volkov · howtolive.guide ·

Left on 'Everyone,' file-sharing features like AirDrop and Nearby Share let any stranger within range send you a photo, link, or file with a single tap — no pairing, no request you can silently ignore ahead of time. In crowded places, this has been used to send unwanted or explicit images to random phones nearby.

A small system beats vigilance: set it once and stop worrying about it. Switch the setting to 'Contacts Only' and turn it back to 'Everyone' only for the few minutes you actually need it.

The point
Leaving AirDrop or Nearby Share open to everyone invites unwanted files from strangers — restrict it to contacts by default.
