What to Do If You Cannot Prove Your Address With a Standard Bill
Many institutions ask for proof of address and expect a utility bill in your name — but that assumption fails if you live with family, share a lease, or rent a room informally. Ask the institution directly what alternatives they accept before assuming you are stuck — a signed statement from the property owner, a bank statement, a tenancy agreement, or an official letter already sent to that address often works just as well. Most institutions have a documented fallback for exactly this situation because it is far more common than the standard form suggests.
If nothing you have qualifies, ask the person whose name is on the utility bill to write and sign a simple letter confirming you live at the address, sometimes alongside their own proof of address. Keep a copy of whatever combination worked, since you will likely need to prove the same address again for a different institution soon.
