Silence Is Not Agreement — in Law or in Contracts

There is a common misconception that if you don't respond to something, you've accepted it by default. In most legal systems, silence does not constitute acceptance of an offer or modification of terms. If someone sends you new conditions and you ignore them, that doesn't mean you agreed. Similarly, if you propose something and hear nothing back, the other party hasn't accepted.
However, there are important exceptions — some contracts include clauses like "if you do not object within 14 days, the changes take effect." Always check for auto-acceptance clauses, especially in insurance, subscription services, and employment contracts. Silence is complex. When in doubt, respond explicitly — even if just to say "I do not agree."
The point
Silence usually does not mean consent in legal matters — but watch out for auto-acceptance clauses that treat your silence as agreement.
