You Assume Others See the World the Way You Do

We naturally believe that most people share our opinions, values, and preferences. They don't. This is the false consensus effect: we project our own worldview onto others and then feel surprised or even betrayed when they disagree. It makes us worse at persuasion, negotiation, and empathy. Before assuming others see what you see, stop and genuinely ask what they see. The answer might change your entire approach.
The point
The false consensus effect makes you overestimate how many people share your views — ask instead of assuming.
