Zero-sum thinking — the idea that every winner creates a loser — is one of the most limiting mental models. In many areas of life, both sides can gain from the same interaction. A good negotiation, a strong partnership, a well-run team: these create value that didn't exist before. When you stop viewing every situation as a pie to divide and start looking for ways to grow the pie, collaboration becomes possible and competition becomes less bitter.
The point
Zero-sum thinking limits you — in many situations, both sides can win if you look for it.
