Put Your Phone in Another Room While Studying

Research consistently shows that even having your phone face-down on the table reduces cognitive performance. It's not about notifications — your brain knows the phone is there and spends a measurable amount of energy resisting the urge to check it. That's mental bandwidth you could be using for the actual work. Turning it silent or flipping it over doesn't solve the problem.
The only solution that reliably works is physical distance. Put the phone in another room, or at least in a bag you can't easily reach. Willpower is a terrible strategy for focus — environment design is far more effective. Once the phone is genuinely out of reach, you'll notice how much easier it becomes to settle into deep work.
The point
Even a silent phone on your desk drains focus — physical distance is the only reliable solution.
