Disappearing Messages Are Not a Privacy Guarantee

Disappearing messages create a false sense of security. Yes, they vanish from the chat after a timer expires. But the other person can screenshot them, photograph the screen, copy the text, or use a modified app that disables auto-deletion. Notifications may have already shown a preview. Backups may have captured the message before it disappeared.
Use disappearing messages as a hygiene tool — keeping chat history lean and reducing digital clutter. But never send something you would not want to exist permanently, thinking the timer will protect you. If a message leaving your phone could ruin your life, the only safe move is not sending it.
The point
Disappearing messages can be screenshotted, backed up, or copied — treat them as a cleanup tool, not a privacy shield.
