Never Admit Fault at the Scene of an Accident Before Speaking to Insurance

H howtolive.guide ·

The moment after an accident, emotions are high and instinct pushes you to apologize, to say something conciliatory. Resist it. Saying "I'm sorry" or "it was my fault" at the scene can be used against you later in insurance claims and legal proceedings, even if you were just being polite. You may not have the full picture of what happened. The other driver may have been speeding, their lights may have been off, or road conditions may have been a factor.

Stick to the facts. Exchange names, contact information, insurance details, and license plates. Say "Are you okay?" not "I'm sorry." Let insurance adjusters and, if necessary, courts determine who was at fault based on evidence — not based on something you said in shock.

The point
Saying \"I'm sorry\" or \"my fault\" at an accident scene can be used against you legally. State facts, exchange info, and let insurance determine liability.
