Name Your Scanned Documents with the YYYY-MM-DD_DocumentName Format

H howtolive.guide ·

"Document(3).pdf" tells you nothing. Start every file name with the date in YYYY-MM-DD format, followed by a descriptive name: 2025-03-15_TaxReturn, 2025-04-01_LeaseAgreement, 2025-06-22_Medical_Receipt. Files named this way always sort chronologically in any folder, on any operating system.

This takes five seconds when you save the file and saves minutes every time you search for it later. After a year, you'll have a beautifully organized digital archive without ever having created a single subfolder.

The point
Name files with YYYY-MM-DD prefix and they will always sort chronologically — no more hunting through \"Document(3).pdf\" files.
