A power of attorney is a document that lets someone else act on your behalf — sign papers, access accounts, or handle legal matters when you cannot be there. Before issuing one, understand exactly what authority you are granting and for how long. A general power of attorney gives broad control; a limited one restricts the scope to specific tasks. Always prefer the most limited version that covers your actual needs.

Make sure the person you choose is someone you trust completely — this is not a favor you hand out casually.
