Nobody Is Watching You as Closely as You Think

H howtolive.guide ·

You spill coffee on your shirt and feel like the whole room noticed. They didn't. This is the spotlight effect: we massively overestimate how much others pay attention to our appearance, mistakes, and awkward moments. Everyone else is too busy worrying about their own coffee stains. Knowing this won't eliminate self-consciousness, but it can free you to take more risks, speak up more often, and care a little less about being perfect in public.

The point
The spotlight effect makes you think everyone noticed — they almost certainly didn't.
