Beware of Arguments That Explain Everything

A theory that can explain any outcome — including contradictory ones — actually explains nothing. If a stock going up proves your thesis and a stock going down also proves it, your thesis is unfalsifiable. Genuine understanding makes specific predictions that could be wrong. If nothing could ever disprove an idea, it's not insight — it's ideology.
The point
If a theory can never be proven wrong, it probably isn't telling you anything useful.
