Know at Least Two Exits in Any Building You Enter

Fires, shootings, and emergencies don't announce themselves with a polite warning. A 3-second glance at exit signs when you enter a new restaurant, theater, or office building can be the difference between escape and being trapped when panic hits. Most people funnel toward the entrance they came in through, even when closer exits exist. Make it a quiet habit: walk in, spot the nearest exit sign, note a second one. It costs you nothing and may one day save your life.
