Keep a Brag File at Work All Year — It Is Your Best Argument for a Raise
When review season arrives, most people struggle to remember their accomplishments from more than a few weeks ago. Meanwhile, your manager is reviewing dozens of employees and cannot remember your contributions either. A brag file — a simple running document where you record wins, positive feedback, completed projects, and measurable results — solves this problem completely. It takes thirty seconds to add an entry and transforms vague self-advocacy into concrete evidence.
Update it weekly or whenever something notable happens. Include numbers wherever possible: revenue generated, time saved, problems solved, clients retained. When the raise conversation comes, you will walk in with a document that does the arguing for you. People who can clearly articulate their value are far more likely to be compensated for it.
