Values Are Discovered Through Action, Not Reflection Alone

H howtolive.guide ·

You can journal about your values for years and still not know what they are. Values do not live in your head — they reveal themselves in what you do when it costs you something. You find out you value honesty the day you tell a hard truth that could hurt you. You discover you value loyalty when you stay after it would be easier to leave.

Stop trying to think your way to your values. Act, then observe. Take on projects, say yes to unfamiliar situations, and pay attention to what makes you feel proud and what makes you feel hollow. Your actions will tell you the truth faster than any personality test.

The point
You discover your real values by acting and observing what makes you proud, not by thinking about them in the abstract.
