Shoe Care Basics That Double the Life of Your Footwear

H howtolive.guide ·

Good shoes are an investment, and basic care takes five minutes but adds years of wear. Let shoes rest at least 24 hours between wearings — this allows moisture to evaporate and the materials to recover their shape. Use cedar shoe trees for leather shoes; they absorb moisture and prevent creasing.

Clean dirt off the same day — dried mud and salt stains eat into leather and fabric over time. For leather, wipe with a damp cloth and condition every few weeks with shoe cream. For sneakers, a gentle brush and mild soap work fine. Waterproof spray is worth the small cost for any shoes you wear in rain or snow. And rotate between at least two pairs for daily wear — no single pair can survive being worn every day without breaking down faster.

The point
Let shoes rest between wears, clean them the same day, and use shoe trees — five minutes of care doubles their lifespan.
