Ignoring a Ceiling Stain Until It Spreads
A small brown ring on the ceiling is easy to dismiss — it is not dripping, so it does not feel urgent. That is the mistake: a stain means water already found a way in, and it rarely stays the same size. By the time it drips, the damage above it has usually been growing for weeks.
The moment you notice a new stain, check the room or roof above it, and if you rent, report it in writing the same day. A five-minute inspection now is cheaper than replacing a soaked ceiling, and far cheaper than dealing with the mold that follows a stain left alone.
The point
A ceiling stain means water is already getting in — investigate it the day you notice it instead of waiting for it to drip.
