How to Reset a Tripped Circuit Breaker Correctly

H howtolive.guide ·

When a breaker trips, don't just flip it back on — that skips the most important step. First, unplug or turn off whatever may have caused the overload. Then push the breaker firmly to the full OFF position before switching it to ON. If it trips again immediately, you have a real electrical problem — call an electrician, don't keep resetting it. Repeated forced resets with an underlying fault can cause wiring damage or fire.

The point
Always turn off the cause, push to full OFF, then switch ON — if it trips again, call an electrician.
