Verify Payment Requests Through a Second Channel

If your boss emails you to urgently wire money, or a vendor sends new bank details, do not act on the email alone. Business email compromise is one of the most costly scam types in the world, and the emails often look perfectly legitimate — because sometimes they come from the actual hacked account.

Always verify unusual payment requests through a separate channel. If the request came by email, call the person on a known phone number. If it came by text, verify in person or by email. The two minutes this takes can save thousands of dollars.
