The Cure for Big-Project Procrastination: Ugly First Drafts

H howtolive.guide ·

Big projects paralyze because they feel like they need to be done right. The thesis, the business plan, the renovation — you keep putting them off because the gap between where you are and the finished product seems enormous. Here is the secret: nobody creates something great on the first try.

Give yourself permission to produce something terrible. Write the worst first draft. Sketch the ugliest prototype. The point is not quality — the point is breaking the spell of not-starting. Once you have something on the page, editing is a thousand times easier than creating from nothing. The ugly first draft is the bridge between thinking about it and actually doing it.

The point
Big projects stall because you want them to be perfect. Give yourself permission to start with something terrible — editing is always easier than creating from zero.
