Make a Financial Emergency Folder and Tell One Trusted Person Where It Is
If something happened to you tomorrow — an accident, a hospitalization, an unexpected death — could someone you trust access your bank accounts, insurance policies, and important documents? Most people have this information scattered across apps, emails, and memory, and their loved ones would spend weeks or months piecing it together during the worst time of their lives.
Create a single folder — physical or encrypted digital — containing a list of all financial accounts, insurance policies, debts, login information or access instructions, and any will or beneficiary designations. Tell one trusted person where it is and how to access it. Update it once a year. This is not morbid planning; it is an act of love for the people who would need to pick up the pieces.
