Test Yourself Before You Think You're Ready

H howtolive.guide ·

The discomfort of testing yourself too early is exactly what makes learning stick. When you struggle to recall something you only half-know, your brain flags it as important and works harder to retain it. Waiting until you feel ready is a trap — that feeling of readiness often comes from familiarity, not mastery.

Don't wait for confidence before you test yourself. The awkward, stumbling first attempt teaches more than the tenth re-read. That sense of "not ready yet" is usually avoidance dressed as caution. Test early, fail early, and let the struggle do the teaching.

The point
Testing yourself before you feel ready creates productive struggle that strengthens learning far more than re-reading.
