Guess Before You Check the Answer

H Pavel Volkov · howtolive.guide ·

When you flip a flashcard or open an answer key, there's a pull to just look — it feels faster. But forcing a guess before you see the answer builds a stronger memory trace than simply reading it. Even a wrong guess helps, because your brain has to search.

Today, before checking any answer, say your best guess out loud first. The gap between your guess and the truth is the actual lesson, not the answer itself.

The point
Guessing before you check an answer, even wrong, builds a stronger memory than passively reading the solution first.
