Create Cheat Sheets — The Act of Creating Them Is the Real Studying

Many students think the value of a cheat sheet is having it during the exam. That's a bonus at best. The real learning happens while you're making it. Condensing an entire topic onto a single page forces your brain to do exactly what studying should do: identify what's essential, discard what's redundant, organize information hierarchically, and rephrase concepts in your own words.

That process — deciding what makes the cut and what doesn't — is deep cognitive work. It's far more effective than re-reading notes or highlighting paragraphs. Even if you never look at the cheat sheet again, you've already done the learning. The finished product is almost beside the point. The transformation happened in the creating.
