A Job Offer Is Not a Favor — Do Not Treat It Like One

When a company offers you a job, they're not doing you a charity. They have a business problem and they believe you can solve it. This is a transaction between equals: they need your skills as much as you need their paycheck. Approaching the offer with gratitude is fine; approaching it with subservience costs you leverage.
Negotiate as a partner, not as a supplicant. The confidence to do this comes from understanding that hiring you is in their interest too.
The point
A job offer is a mutual exchange of value — treat it as a business agreement, not a gift.
