Why Everyone Needs a Will — Not Just Wealthy People
A will is not about how much you own. It's about preventing chaos for the people you leave behind. Without a will, the law decides who inherits what — and the default rules often don't match what you would have wanted. Your partner may not automatically get the house. Your estranged relative may be entitled to a share. The process can take years and tear families apart over things that could have been settled in a one-page document.
A basic will doesn't require a lawyer in many jurisdictions — though having one review it is wise. At minimum, it should state who gets what, who takes care of your children (if any), and who manages the process. Writing a will is not morbid. It is one of the most considerate things you can do for the people you love. Update it after major life events — marriage, divorce, children, significant purchases.
